BBC weather: Matt Taylor replaces Carol Kirkwood for forecast – 'Doctor Who in reverse'

Delivering the weather forecast from the Hull landmark, Matt informed viewers that the City of Culture’s bridge had been given Grade I status on the 36th anniversary of its opening.

However, his useful insight didn’t stop one viewer from thinking the usual BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood had been regenerated into a man in line with Doctor Who’s latest news.

They wrote: “They’ve replaced the weather woman with a weather man on @BBCBreakfast. It’s like #DoctorWho in reverse…”

One viewer was happy to be waking up to Matt this morning who had wrapped up in a khaki jacket for the forecast, they said: “You are wonderful, Carol, but so is Matt. I shall be happy with either of you @MetMattTaylor @carolkirkwood.”

Matt told viewers it will be dry and warm across the UK Today although some places will be a little on the cool side.

There will be cloud this morning across the north and west of Scotland which may produce some rain.

This afternoon across the south of England, there will be plenty of sunshine with temperatures hovering around 25 degrees celsius.

Eastern parts could hit around 26 or 27 degrees with the north of England also seeing 25 degrees and it will also be 25 degrees celsius in Northern Ireland and eastern parts of Scotland.

Temperatures will drop throughout the night but tomorrow will be another beautiful day for many

It will be little warmer than today with southern England peaking at high 20 degrees celsius.

However later in the day, there will be flashes of lightening in the northern parts of the UK with torrential downpours which will bring risks of minor flooding.

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays at 6am on BBC One
