Grime, pop and post-punk rock all made the shortlist for the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards this year.
Mercury Prize-winning Skepta is up for best contemporary song with Man, up against Mura Masa’s Lovesick featuring A$AP Rocky and NEIKED’s Sexual.
This is the second time the grime artist has been nominated for an Ivor, after losing out last year to Snakehips’ All My Friends.
Adele and Nick Cave are also in the running at the prestigious songwriters awards, now in its 62nd edition.
“Celebrating, honouring and rewarding excellence in songwriting in the UK”, the Ivors are awarded every year by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA).
BASCA members include some of Britain’s most famous musicians in all genres, including Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Bush and Sir Elton John.
“As the only peer-nominated music award ceremony in the country, we’re especially thrilled to be honouring such a cool selection of both emerging and established nominees,” said BASCA chairman Crispin Hunt.
“They are the true architects of the music we love and reflect the creative global force that is British music writing.”
This year, Adele’s When We Were Young is up against two Coldplay hits in the most performed music category.
Nick Cave’s album Skeleton Tree, which he was recording at the time of his 15-year-old son Arthur’s accidental death, has been nominated for best album.
Last year, Adele was named songwriter of the year, while Blur and Gorillaz musician Damon Albarn took home the lifetime achievement award.
This year’s winners will be announced at the London ceremony on 18 May.
