Emmerdale star Zoe Henry admits Rhona Goskirk's rape scenes are ‘shocking’ and ‘brutal’

Fans of the ITV soap have seen Pierce (played by Jonathan Wrather) gradually become more controlling of Rhona (Zoe Henry) over the last few months, but things are about to take a turn for the worse.

On what is supposed to be the happiest day of their lives, the new bride is left in shock when abusive Pierce pushes her to the floor and rapes her.

Speaking about the upcoming dark scenes, Zoe admitted she was concerned the storyline was too “brutal”.

“When I read it, I found it quite shocking. I didn’t imagine that the story would go to where it’s gone to,” she said reports Daily Star.

“When we rehearsed it, which we don’t normally, I did air my concerns about how brutal some of the stuff we were doing was.

“I asked: ‘Are we going to be able to show all of this?'”

“Our director said: ‘We can’t half-tell this story. You can’t cut it down or make it less brutal, because what he’s done is brutal and awful. If we don’t tell it properly, then we’re not doing our jobs right’. So that’s why it’s so awful to watch.”

Zoe revealed things turned sour after Pierce announced he has bought Rhona a house miles away from her current home, which resulted in an almighty row.

But filming the aftermath of the sexual assault was the one scene that shocked the actress the most.

Zoe continued: “After the attack, Rhona is really genuinely shocked by the turn of events.

“Pierce tells her to pull herself together and get dressed because people will be wondering where they are.”

She concluded: “That’s the part I found the hardest – his reaction afterwards.”

Emmerdale continues tonight on ITV at 7pm.
